John 12:46 I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes and trusts in Me (as Savior – all those who anchor their hope in Me and rely on the truth of My message) will not continue to live in darkness. (AMP)

Jesus came not only to save us from our sins and give us eternal life in the future, but also to change how we live now

For many Christians, there is ambiguity on how to live once you become saved.  All of us have a tendency to want to continue to enjoy the sinful desires that the world offers, as it appeals to our fleshly nature. We want to fit in with the crowd and find friends rather than to be alone, even if our friends may not truly believe.  As a result, we call ourselves Christian, but we straddle the line on how a believer should live relative to an unbeliever.

That’s not what Jesus wants.

Jesus came to get you to turn from and move out of the darkness – or a life of sin – and into the light.  This means doing away with sins such as sexual promiscuity and sensuality, jealousy and drunkenness (Rom 13:12-14).  It means seeking to do what pleases Jesus as Lord (Eph 5:10).  It means learning to follow Him (Jn 8:12).

Following Him is not easy though.  We must first understand what He wants us to do (you can quickly determine this from skimming through the gospels in a Bible that uses red letter font whenever Jesus spoke).  Then, we must have the discipline and commitment to do it each day.  In short, following Jesus is seeking to live like He did – a very tall order indeed, but what He wants from those who claim to be His.

Do you want to experience fellowship with God?  Do you want godly fellowship with other believers?  Do you want to live a life of less sin and its painful consequences, and one with more peace and joy?  Then live in the Light.   That’s what Jesus wants from you.

1 John 1:6-7   6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
