Overview of Book
The apostle Paul wrote the book of Romans to Christians in Rome. Unlike most New Testament books where Paul addressed certain problems that people faced, Romans is essentially an in-depth sermon about the gospel, salvation, and how a Christian should live. In it he also contrasts the spiritual condition of Jews with Gentiles, and discusses Israel’s salvation.
Salvation-related Verses
Romans contains a lot of “meat” on how a person is saved, what happens when a person becomes saved, and how a saved person should live. As a result, it is one of the most important books in the New Testament on salvation. This book is not an easy read (I had to read it three times using three different Bible translations to understand it), but well worth your time if you really want to learn how to become a Christian and know how a Christian should act toward others.
In my review of New Testament books on salvation, I’ve periodically mentioned that each book contains several pieces of a “salvation puzzle,” and that a review of most books was needed to complete the puzzle. Romans contains several of the larger and more important pieces of this puzzle.
In my next two posts on Romans, I plan to use salvation-related verses from it to answer the following questions:
Romans – Part 2 of 5
- What is the gospel? (there is more to it than most people may realize)
Romans – Part 3 of 5
- How is a person saved?
Romans – Part 4 of 5
- What happens (spiritually) when a person becomes a Christian? (a LOT takes place “behind the scenes”)
Romans – Part 5 of 5
- How should a Christian live? (Romans has a lot to say about this too, and reading the verses in this book influenced how I interact with others)
